I need to replace part of my roof due to storm damage, so thanks for sharing this. I like your point about how some asphalt shingles are designed to look like slate. My dad wanted to replace our roof because it was damaged because of the hail storm last weekend. It was explained here that shingles are usually layered to the appearance of a slate roof.
